We are saddened to report that our esteemed colleague "Jim" Farmer (Edward James Farmer), 74, of Ventura, passed away on May 19, 2010 at the West Los Angeles Veterans Hospital due to complications from a stroke.
Jim was born on July 31, 1935 in Waterloo, Iowa. He joined the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He then began his career as a tool and die maker in Waterloo until he moved to California in 1964. Jim became an Engineer working for many companies including Northrop, Lockheed and McDonald Douglas. During this time he worked on such projects as the F18 Hornet, DC10, Northrop's F5 and the Boeing 747. Later he owned and operated Refurbishment Corporation of America and No. 1 Glass and Screen Co. until 1975 when he started Jim Farmer's Real Estate Inspections and later Jim Farmer's Legal Support & Expert Witness Service. He was a leader in the home inspection industry and held many positions in the California Real Estate Inspection Association including State President in 1997/1998.
Our condolences extend to his children Blaine Farmer (wife Vickie) of Midway, Irene Farmer of Evansdale, Iowa, Alice Pitts (husband Thom) of Tulsa, Okla., Kristine Wilson (husband Tim) of Tulsa, Okla., Alexa Ross (husband Aaron) of Moorpark, and to his 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Memorial was held at 1 p.m. May 26, 2010 at the Veteran's Plaza at the Rancho Tapo Community Park in Simi Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Diabetes Association.
Jim will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all in the inspection industry. In the past, Jim graciously shared his philosophy about the industry with 3D Inspection Systems in an interview posted on our Case Studies page Here. We also appreciated the many fine suggestions Jim made that were implemented into our software. We'll miss you Jim!
